California, Camp and the Coast

Our trip to California started out on Saturday morning, as most of our trips do...with a stop at Walmart and of course, lunch! But finally got on the highway and headed west!
Mom and Dad don't have to do all the driving these days!! It's rather nice! As long as Dad is the one "coaching" and they are not coaching each other!!
We arrived in Modesto about 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, enjoyed a wonderful supper and evening with our family there! Thanks Derek and Heather for the wonderful hospitality!!

Monday morning we drove to Yosemite National Park for the day!

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
Our first picture inside the park!

Our hike for the day!

Part of this trail is over 800 stone steps -- some of them very wet from the mist!

There were SO MANY people here -- Dave said there were as many people in this National Park as there is in the whole state of Montana!! Not really...but look at everyone on this trail. We enjoyed this hike, just because it was a challenge and the views were awesome, but we did not enjoy share it with all the people!

Getting close to the top!! And getting wet from the mist coming off the falls!

The view over the railing at the top!

Proof that mom did make it to the top wet hair and all!! When I was climbing all those steps...I wondered if I'd EVER make it up!! But it sure was worth it once at the top!

This little guy enjoyed Hannah's leftover snack!

We finally made it back down -- after walking about 5 miles when you add in the 1/2 mile we had to walk from the car to the trail head. With all the people there, we couldn't park in the parking lot at the trail head.

Ok--so they didn't see much of the scenery between the hike and the next stop!

Pictures taken from Glacier Point.

Half Dome -- we could see hikers on the top through binoculars!!

Beautiful panoramic view!
The clouds show the storm brewing, we could hear the thunder rumbling in the distance.

The road from Glacier Point to Mariposa Grove was under construction -- part gravel and part pavement...we must have hit a stone just right for it to puncture a tire...groan and sigh...

Yes...it's really flat!

A good lesson for our new driver!!

The trees are huge!!

It was worth the walk to see this famous tree!

At the end of a very full and eventful day...everyone is tired of walking!!

After dropping the kids off for camp, Dave and I headed to the tire store to get the tire fixed (we ended up buying a new one -- an expensive trip to Yosemite!) then drove to the coast for a couple of days!

We enjoyed sitting on the rocks watching the surf, the sea lions and the birds!

Beautiful flower boxes at the restaurant.

Awesome sunsets at the Monterey Coast -- just a couple of blocks from our motel!

Beautiful sky and surf after the sunset.

We drove down the coast from Monterey towards Big Sur ... here are some pictures taken from the drive...

The kids preparing to board the buses for the trip up the mountain to the camp! This is only a fraction of the luggage that was hauled up the mountain! You can imagine the pile of luggage 142 kids can make. Not to mention chaperons, food and equipment. It is a huge undertaking to get these kids and all the stuff it takes for a week of camp up the mountain!

We drove up to camp on Thursday and Friday night for campfire, skits and devotions. It was great to see the kids having so much fun! Friday night, at this setting, is where Hannah "found Jesus"!! Praise the Lord!!

Saturday morning before picking up the kids from camp, Uncle Marvin and A. Peggy took us out on their boat!!

Cleaning before we could take the boat out!!

We had a great morning on the boat!! Thanks U. Marvin's for breakfast and the boat ride!

Captin Marvin and Skipper Dave -- "Captin" giving Dave a lesson in boat driving!!

Skipper Peggy!
Well... All good things must come to an end...
So we left California on Sunday morning --arriving safely at home on Monday afternoon!
